If you’re on the same “side” of TikTok as I am, then you definitely know about the Ratatouille musical, and it’s basically taken over your For You Page…but if you’re not, well, you’re probably very confused right now. Whether you know every song created for the internet musical or are desperately trying to figure out why people are so obsessed with the rat from that one Disney movie, you can tune in to a digital event next month and jam out.
Our tale (or tail hahaha!!!) started earlier this year when a TikTok user named Emily Jacobsen recorded herself singing a little tune that goes “Remy, the ratatouille, the rat of all my dreams.” Despite its factual inaccuracies (ratatouille is the dish, whereas Remy is just the rat), the song blew up with people harmonizing over it and making companion songs in a broadway-style.
From there Ratatouille The Musical (or Ratatousical, as I prefer to call it) was born on the app. In fact, Ratatouille The Musical creations have a combined 18.8 million views based on the hashtag alone and there have been videos made with songs, costumes, choreography, set design, even fanfic about the stage crew. It’s an endless rabbit hole (…rathole?) that I suggest you go down immediately.
That’s where Broadway production company Seaview comes in. The company announced it would be putting on a digital event of the musical in association with TikTok and TodayTix Presents, according to Deadline.com. The event will be a ticketed production on New Year’s Day called Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical. It will air at 7 p.m. that evening and be available online for 72 hours after that.
Tickets are already on sale and proceeds benefit the Actors Fund. You can buy one for just $5, which is a pretty small price to pay for new theater and a good cause! Oh, and for pure Disney-inspired joy. If you’re still not convinced, check out a compilation of creations in the video above.
