The phrase “Goodbye, Kyle!” may have taken over Bravo in 2019, but in 2020, it feels like Kyle Richards is one of the only Bravolebrities fans haven’t bid adieu to.
Southern Charm, Vanderpump Rules, Below Deck and several Real Housewives franchises have had casting shake-ups at the top of the decade.
In addition to being the first season sans Lisa Vanderpump, season 10 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills marked the last for Denise Richards. Following Bethenny Frankel’s last-minute decision not to film season 12 of The Real Housewives of New York City, Tinsley Mortimer stopped shooting midseason. Before the reunion even aired, Dorinda Medley announced she was done with the series too.
“It’s usually a conversation,” Andy Cohen said at the Tribeca TV Festiva in 2018 when asked about when it’s the right time for a Housewife to leave their respective city. “At the end of every season, we talk to the women about what they have coming up and whether they want to come back. What they see for the future. Then we also look at the show and say, ‘How do we want to change the show?’ I think part of the reason the entire franchise is successful is it’s an ensemble show.”
He added: “It’s all about what’s best for the group. What’s best for the ensemble? How’s it going to be different? Do we want to continue this conversation? Do we want to pivot into a new conversation?”
In addition to several stars leaving on their own accord, the network cut ties with a number of personalities for their past racist behavior in 2020.
“There’s so much happening in the Bravo universe,” Cohen said in June after Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni were fired from Vanderpump Rules.“I will say this about what happened. I absolutely support Bravo’s decision, I think it was the right decision. … I’m not in charge of programming at Bravo anymore. I am not an executive producer of Vanderpump Rules. I don’t have anything to do with the show except I love it and that I host the reunions. I don’t produce the show so what I want people to know is I have no say in hiring and firing. … There is a lot more to discuss and we’re already having those discussions.”

The accountability coach confirmed in September that Bravo didn’t renew her contract for season 11 of RHOBH. “I could give you the standard response of ‘Oh, we both came to the decision that it would be best…’ Nah, I’m not gonna do that. That’s not who I am,” Teddi, who joined during season 8, told fans via Instagram. “Of course, when I got the news I was sad. It feels like a breakup almost because you develop such strong relationships with the cast, with the crew, and you get to do incredible things that you probably never get to experience without, you know, the show. That being said, I’m really looking forward to the future and being able to focus on my family, my friends, All In.”

The Real Housewives of Atlanta OG confirmed in September she would not be featured on season 13.
“I’m just so happy that I can say that I was a part of a genre that opened up doors for Black ensemble reality shows,” NeNe said in a YouTube video. “I want to thank everybody that has looked up to me over the years. … I want to thank Bravo for all the memories. … Thank you to the cast for all of the memories.”
NeNe originally left RHOA in 2015 after seven seasons. She returned for season 10 in 2017.

“I will be never returning as a Housewife again with the Jersey girls,” Danielle declared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen in January. “I have, over the past 12 years and 10 seasons, been a part of this whole franchise and I’ve been very happy to rally and stand on a platform and be here with all of you. But it is time for me to leave and do something that I want to do that makes my heart happy every day.”
Danielle starred on RHONJ as a full-time Housewife for seasons 1 and 2 and returned in a “friend” role for seasons 8, 9 and 10.

Tamra confirmed in January that she turned down an offer to appear on season 15 of The Real Housewives of Orange County in a part-time role.
“It’s kind of like a death. I’ve been in the Bravo family for 12 years,” Tamra, who joined RHOC during season 3, told Cohen via Instagram Live. “I’m a redheaded stepchild now. It is what it is. It’s a very long run. I’ve been crying for three days. I haven’t slept or eaten. But I’ll be all right.”

Vicki announced in January that she would not be back for season 15. “I will always be the OG of the OC, but it’s time to say goodbye to The Real Housewives of Orange County,” she wrote via Instagram. “It’s been an incredible ride for 14 years and I want thank all of you for your support, for your love and for ‘whooping it up’ with me along the way. … I love all my fans, and I want to thank Bravo and Evolution for this incredible experience which my family and I have will never forget.”
Vicki was featured in a “friend” role for season 14 after 13 seasons as a full-time OC Housewife.

After six seasons on RHONY, Dorinda announced her departure in August ahead of season 13. “What a journey this has been. I have laughed and cried and tried to Make it Nice,” she wrote via Instagram, “This was a great outlet for me to heal when my late husband Richard passed away. I have met so many interesting people and learned so much about myself, about life and about women along the way. Thank you to Bravo and NBC for the incredible ride and to my cast mates for constant stimulation and entertainment. I wish you all health, happiness and success.”

Tinsley walked away from RHONY during season 12 after she moved to Chicago to reunite with her off-again, on-again love, Scott Kluth. (He later proposed.)
“Thank you mugshot, thank you Sonja [Morgan], thank you townhouse, thank you everybody else I met along the way,” she said in her final episode, which aired in June. “It’s been a great ride and I’m just so happy with where I am right now and so excited for my future.”

Bravo cut ties with the Vanderpump Rules star in June after racially insensitive comments from her past resurfaced. Three months later, Stassi broke her silence on the scandal during an interview with Tamron Hall, confirming she was done with reality TV.
“That ship has sailed. And my life feels very different right now,” Stassi, who had been part of the RHOBH spinoff since its 2013 premiere, said on the Tamron Hall Show. “I think when something like this happens and you get pregnant on top of it, you take inventory of your life and you think what is going to be the best for my future child, and I think getting drunk and starting conflict and misbehaving on a reality show isn’t my journey anymore.”

Another Vanderpump Rules OG, Kristen came under fire alongside Stassi when former SURver Faith Stowers revealed the two women falsely reported her to the police for a crime she didn’t commit. She will also not be back for season 9.
“I called a tip hotline. At the time, I was told by multiple people that it was [Faith] and that she had a history,” Kristen wrote on Instagram in September. “That I’ve admitted and have publicly and privately apologized. I should have stayed out of it … I’m very grateful for those who want us to listen, learn and grow.”

Several months after his initial apology for past homophobic and racist tweets, the TomTom general manager was fired from Vanderpump Rules.
“Bravo and Evolution Media confirmed today that Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni will not be returning to Vanderpump Rules,” the network’s official June statement read.

Brett was also fired for using racial slurs in old tweets.
“While I’m disappointed to no longer be part of the cast, I respect Bravo’s decision,” Brett told Us in an exclusive statement in June. “I continue to be truly sorry for the insensitive comments I made in the past and have worked within my community to repair the damage I’ve caused. I have learned a lot and grown from the experience but understand that it’s not enough. I will continue to do more regardless of my affiliation with VPR because it’s the right thing to do.”

The Real Housewives of Dallas star announced her exit in February. “The last four years have been a trolley-slapping good time but after much consideration, I have made the personal decision to step away from RHOD,” she said in a statement. “Getting to share my wedding with the viewers last year brought me tremendous joy, however, the season was very personally challenging for me. I am looking forward to stepping away from the cameras and spending quality time with my husband and friends, traveling, but most importantly, getting back to philanthropy, which was my main reason for joining the show.”

The stewardess paraphrased Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal exit statement to announce season 7 of Below Deck would be her last.
“After many months of reflection and internal discussions, I have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new land based role,” she wrote in February. “I intend to step back as a senior member of the Below Deck Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support His Majesty Andy Cohen.”
The good news? Kate will be back on the network as a panelist on the new talk show Bravo’s Chat Room.

The Southern Charm OG announced in May that she was not filming season 7 of the show. “You must protect what is sacred to you. Some things aren’t worth a big paycheck,” Cameran wrote via Instagram amid allegations that her husband, Jason Wimberly, was unfaithful/ “What upsets me the most is that my husband, who is the most sincere and faithful human I know is being falsely dragged into this. It disgusts me.”

The Survivor alum followed in Cameran and Naomie’s footsteps and didn’t return for season 7 of Southern Charm.

“Personally I feel like I walked away at a time that was right for me and that’s how Cam and Chelsea feel too,” Naomie said in July about opting out of season 7. “I’m very supportive of that. I still love most of the people on there. … I think some people truly are themselves. But then after a few years, which is why a lot of shows end up getting canceled after several years because it gets so robotic.”

After one season, Eliza confirmed in a statement in August that she wasn’t back for season 7. “It’s been a thrill to be part of Southern Charm, but with a wedding to plan on top of my busy work life, it’s best for me to focus on what’s next,” she said. ”I walk away from my reality TV ride with positive feelings, and no regrets. I’m grateful for the experience, for the friendships I made along the way, and for loyal fans who have been so supportive and kind. I can’t wait to marry the love of my life Struthers, spend more time with my horses and start this exciting new chapter.”

After one season as a “friend” and two seasons as a peach-holder, Eva said goodbye to RHOA ahead of season 13.
“I appreciate the bond of friendship that I have made with several of my castmates and the strong personal relationships I have with numerous executives and producers at the Bravo and Truly Entertainment companies,” the model said in a statement in June. “I am thankful for the opportunity I was provided. However, after speaking with my family and representatives, I believe that what I hope to accomplish for the culture and community will be better served by focusing on other opportunities. I look forward to serving my community on The Rickey Smiley Morning Show and finding ways to be a voice during this transformational time in our country for people of color.”

Fans said goodbye to Hannah during an August episode of Below Deck Mediterranean after Malia White reported her to Captain Sandy for having a pack of Valium and a vape pen on board the yacht during season 5.
“It’s not something I was hiding,” she said in an interview with Decider. “It wasn’t like I went on and I was like, ‘Ooh, I have this Valium. I can’t let anyone see it.’ To me, it’s just anti-anxiety medication. I made the mistake of not clearing it when I brought it on the boat. Because I’ve always had it, every year. It just wasn’t really a process that went through my mind. That was my mistake. But yeah, it certainly wasn’t something I was trying to hide. … I think I’ve just been really disappointed because I feel I’m being painted as some sort of drug addict or what have you.”

After two seasons on RHOBH, a rep for Denise confirmed she wouldn’t be back for season 11. “I had a great first season. The second season was challenging,” she said on The Real in September, referring to Brandi Glanville’s accusations that the two women had an affair. “I just thought it was the right time for me to go and to just keep focusing on the other projects that I have. I had a great time. I will always be a fan and I will continue to support the show.”

The Below Deck Mediterranean newcomer was fired while season 5 aired after he posted an offensive meme that featured a Black woman in shackles.
“A little over 3 months ago, someone sent me a meme on social media and I thoughtlessly reposted it. I now realize how painful the imagery and symbolism is and, upon deeper consideration, I realize that the implicit bias that exists in the brief text written in the meme is offensive,” he said at the time. “To all those I have hurt and offended, please know that I am genuinely sorry. I have always supported equal rights and equal opportunities for ALL people. Be safe, stay well, and always think before you post. With love, Pete.”

On December 4, Taylor shared that after eight years, he would not be returning to Vanderpump Rules after “some of the most challenging, rewarding and fulfilling years of my life.” In a lengthy Instagram caption, he said that he and wife Brittany Cartwright will focus on their family and new projects. He added in the comments section, “It’s time to move on…. we had a good run. It doesn’t make sense anymore.”

Following Taylor’s post, Cartwright shared a similar message. “Thank you to all the fans who have shared our journey with us and supported us through everything,” she wrote on December 4. “We love you. Stay tuned.”
